old man winter you sneaky jerk!

By in Exterior, Life

This was the view outside my front door this morning! I know winter is on it’s way, but I wasn’t prepared for it to show up last night. The top broke out of my Japanese Lilac tree, hopefully it will look alright when the snow melts and it bounces back. I also got a snow day today, something that never happens in October!

You can see a few more pics here.

Exactly Euni! Well, something a little more profane might have come out of my mouth.

    Yikes!

I know they are prettier with the snow left on, but if you have any breakable shrubs in your landscaping (sadly too late for the top of the Japanese Lilac), you can help them by gently brushing the snow off, so the weight in the cold does not break them off.

When it snows here in Seattle (not too often, but sometimes we get a surprise doozy – like on April 19th & 20th of this past year!), I have to go out and gently shake the snow off all my hydrangeas, my roses, my forsythia, and my miniature purple plum. Otherwise, they break and are lopsided in the spring and for the rest of the year.
