goodbye carpet part 2

By in Master Bedroom

It’s finally gone! It took about an hour and a half today but now I no longer have to look at that ugly carpet. The worst part of removing it was carrying it down the stairs, carpet is much heavier than it looks! I’m going to start skim coating the walls this weekend, once that is done I’ll paint, put in new shoe molding, paint the floor and then I cam move back into my bedroom.

Do you actually need shoe molding? You might not, since the moldings went in after the floors. I think it’s only necessary when the floors are done later, and you need to cover the edges of the boards.

The only place I have shoe molding in my house is in the bathroom (I put it in after the new tile went down). Personally, I like the clean line of plain baseboard moldings butting directly against the floor. Even if there’s a slight gap, it’s OK.

I’m going to cast a vote for no shoe molding if possible. 🙂

There are a couple of areas where the baseboards are maybe 1/4 to 1/2 an inch off of the floor, probably due to settling. That’s why I was thinking there should be shoe molding. I think there was some once as I can see where it was. But maybe there is something else I can do instead to save the hassle. I’ll take some pics to post today.

Also, do you think you would be able to send the bedroom light? My father and I are re-running the wires tomorrow. Let me know how much shipping costs and I’ll be glad to cover the cost!

Oh sure, I can send it anytime! I’ll try to do it tomorrow since it’s a holiday weekend, but if I can’t make it to the PO in the morning (we have to go out to Bklyn for the day), I will mail it from the city on Tuesday.

I’ll do a post with further details. 🙂
