still here

By in Inspiration & Ideas, Life, Me

Sorry for the lack of posts this week. I went into the school where I work Wednesday for some technology training only to discover that construction involving my classroom that I was told would most likely not be happening yet has happened, rendering my classroom unusable (we are undergoing a huge capital building project where I will get a new room and my current room will be turned into someone else’s room as well as numerous other construction). Currently I don’t have a set place to be teaching in when I got back to work on September 2. To say this was a surprise would be an understatement.

So, I will now have a construction zone at work as well as at home. It’s not the end of the world, but I’ve been feeling more than a little stressed. I took a few days off from my work at home just to relax and attend to some other things that have been building up (lawn mowing, meetings etc.).

I have a 9 a.m. meeting tomorrow with a carpenter to discuss framing in a new door for Thurston’s room and possibly drywalling my bedroom (don’t even get me started on that!) and then it is back to patching plaster! I think the re-wiring will be done this week so I am feeling on track for finishing the upstairs hallway before I go back to work!

I’m not 100% decided on my hallway colors yet. I was thinking of doing Benjamin Moore Moonlight White and Simply white like I am going to do in my bedroom, or perhaps going for a very light blue. I’m actually thinking of doing the whole interior of the house a combination of whites and light blues over the next several months and focusing the rest of my color on furniture, textiles and accessories, that way I have more options to change things up when I want to without re-painting a whole room. Give me some ideas ladies and gentlemen! I hope everyone is enjoying the last few weeks in August, the weather has finally gotten nice hear again and I love it!

    Hi Adam

We have used Benjamin Moore CC 700 – Smoky Green in our kitchen and hallways. It doesn’t look green or smoky I don’t think but it was recommended by our local BM paint store and we love it. So give it a look.

Thanks Wendy! I’ll check it out.

  3. Adam,

do you self a favor test the color first to make sure they look in your lighting. allows you to try any color from any brand $5.99 each and have them shipped to your door. They also modify them lighter or darker and show you combinations.

    Benjamin Moore
    Ralph Lauren
    Martha Stewart

I know what that feels like! I’m a teacher and the new campus of our school wasn’t opened until a term after it was supposed to this year. Building was delayed because we’ve been in a drought and it started raining over the holidays…

Our bathroom is still undergoing major work this week and we were hoping that everything would be finished last Friday. It’s still an empty concrete shell but at least what’s inside the walls is all fixed. Sigh!

Good luck with all your projects! Can’t wait to see how they turn out.

Benjamin Moore Lover: Thanks for the great tip! I’m definitely going to look into that, I think it will save me a lot of hassle!

Janet: It’s going to be a mess at my school for a while, but the end result will be worth it. Good luck with your bathroom renovation, it sounds like you have a lot of work going on with it. Do you have any pics of it?

Adam, try pulling the strip of BM chips with that blue color I mentioned for your floor, Palladian Blue, on it. Take a look at the next shade up (lighter) — I can’t remember the name, but it might be good as a wall paint. I have some other light blue chips at home that I’ll take a look at tonight. Our kitchen is a very pale, icy blue, and I saved all of the chips I had collected at the time.

Also — your BM dealer probably sells those little sample pots in the store. They don’t come in every color, but they are GREAT. Much more useful than a chip.

I’m going to go later today or tomorrow to pick up the Palladian chip and will look at the other. I went the other day to pick up chips of the two whites and I don’t know why I didn’t get the blue then as well. I’m also going to see what they have for samples.

Hi Adam, I’ve got photos but not a flickr account – I can email them but there’s not much to see except bare walls and (since today) the bath in its timber frame. It’s taking ages. Hopefully most of it will be done in a week (which is what I said last week.)

Janet: I hope it goes well and gets done soon for you! I’m going to try to redo my bathroom next summer.
