bye bye paneling

By in Upstairs Hallway

So, as the weather continues to thwart my chimney removal and therefore by bedroom remodel as well I decided to branch out into the upstairs hallway. You can see the before pics of the upstairs hallway here . I have been so sick of looking at the paneling, it makes the hallway so dark. I also knew there was more height above the drop ceiling.

So yesterday out of boredom and frustration I started to tear it down. There are only a couple of holes in the otherwise good condition textured plaster. It already looks so much brighter, plus the paneling was built on a frame of wood that stood about 3 or 4 inches from the original wall, so I have more width in my hall know too! The wiring is going to need to be re-run up through the attic and down through the room ceilings, but I know someone who can do that for me. The wiring is all recent so at least that is something.

Today I’m going to try to get the rest off around the stairs, not sure how yet though! I’ve already fallen down my stairs twice since I have lived in this house and I’m not anxious to do it again!

Hopefully the wires will not be dangling for long!

It does look a lot brighter and bigger. I’m going to need your help for a hanging light fixture- I’ll post some pics tomorrow.

It always amazes me how the removal of paneling can change a space so much. It looks great!

Looking forward to the lighting fixture pictures! 🙂
