upstairs hallway

By in Upstairs Hallway

This is my upstairs hallway. It is all old linoleum tile floor, wood paneling and a drop ceiling. Underneath the paneling I have discovered the original plaster walls and moldings. I am trying to decide if I am going to include this in the current renovation project or wait until later.

The dumpster is ordered and should be here within the week! I’m excited!

You have a lot of work to do, but you are lucky that you have the original trim underneath your paneling. We have a paneled/drop ceilinged room (that we need to eventually tackle), where the genius removed all the trimwork, and then added cheap black plastic trim! Now, WHY would anyone do that?!

OH MY GOD, why did people DO things like that?!

This is all so amazing, Adam. You do realize that beyond making the house more beautiful for YOU, you are also increasing its value hugely by uncovering all of the original moldings and walls/ceilings.

I think if the paneling, etc. will fit in the dumpster, you might as well take it all down now. Even if you have to save the restoration part of the work for another time in the future, at least all of those materials will be GONE.

By the way, it looks like there’s only a couple of layers of pain on those old moldings. Lucky you!

I can’t imagine why someone would remove all the trim to put in black plastic molding. it makes no sense to me, but neither does half the stuff done to my house.
